Now it’s 1 month since the release of Pokémon Go, yet most countries are yet to feel the sensation of the intriguing and adventurous game including African countries.

Last Friday however, Niantic released the game for 15 countries more. These countries include Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau.

Even in their efforts to make this game available to more users, the game is yet to be launched in  any African country. Why?

Is it because most countries in Africa are regarded as developing or under developed or we don’t have the required mapping system?

These and more I am sure are questions running across the minds of many African. However it should be noted that China, India and Korea which are regarded as the land of games are yet to enjoy the game too.

These bring in mind the question, is Niantic afraid to take on the world or are not ready?

When asked about launching the game in other countries, Niantic CEO John Hanke noted that it isn’t really as easy as flipping a switch. He told Forbes that regulations in China and limited Google Maps data for South Korea (owing to security concerns in North Korea) are holding his company back from launching the game in those countries.

Security issues and limited Google Maps data could be the main reason why the app is yet to be available in other countries.
